
CULS - Ceska Zemedelska Univerzita V Praze - Czech University of Life Science Prague
CULS is public university for international research and education in areas of life sciences, food processing, ecology, engineering, and economics, based in Prague, Czech Republic. CULS employs >1,500 of teaching staff and around 25,000 students have being enrolled annually in wide range of study programmes. Since the year 2000, CULS has been participating in more than 50 international projects, e.g. Leonardo, Tempus, Grundtvig, Comenius, CEEPUS or projects funded by Visegrad Fund. The projects implemented under the above mentioned schemes were also used to develop student and staff mobility and helped the IRO staff to acquire experience with all the related organizational aspects. CULS is being actively involved in international organizations and networks involved in activities towards successful implementation of SDGs. The Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTA), which is the main implementing faculty, offers students a wide range of education, covering the entire area of the agrarian sector outside the Czech Republic and in international development cooperation. FTA has outstanding and long-term experience in the coordination of development projects financed by the CzechAid, EuropeAid, USAID or UNDP.
Activities
CULS will be involved mainly in WP3, for harvesting and producing relevant knowledge, through its specific expertise and also thanks to its contacts throughout the countries of central and eastern Europe, and to a lower degree in WP1.
People
- Vladimir Verner (m) is head of economics and development department at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, CULS. His academic background is related to agricultural economics, with special focus on economic, cultural and biological diversity of farming systems and minor/neglected species value-chains development. He has been involved as PI or Co-PI in 21 R&I projects implementation particularly in South-East Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam), Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan), Sub-Saharan Africa (Senegal, Zambia), Latin America (Peru) or Europe (Bosnia and Hercegovina, Georgia and Moldova). He worked as external reviewer for UNDP (M&E of ODA projects), AGRINATURA EEIG and IFAD (Review of CGIAR research activities financed by EU) or EC (H2020 post-doc research projects review). He has represented CULS at international level as a member of EFARD Management Team, GFAR or International Society of Ecological Economics. He is author or co-author of 15 full-text publications indexed at ISI/SJC journals.
- Jan Banout (m) is is assoc. prof. and senior researcher in the field of Food Security, Food Processing Technology and Organic Waste Management. Currently he is a head of the Department of Sustainable Technology, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. At the same time he is a dean of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. He has a significant level of experience in both teaching and research including field investigation and surveys mainly in developing countries. He has strong experience as senior consultant in above mentioned disciplines. He was a manager or member of research team of more than 13 projects conducted in Latin America, Africa and Asia with the main focus on sustainable development of agriculture technology, food processing, food security and organic waste management. He was invited speaker and invited lecturer at several universities in Europe, Asia and Africa with in above mentioned topics. He is author or co-author of 22 scientific papers published in peer reviewed scientific journals, from which 17 are published in scientific journals with Impact Factor. He is author or co-author of 4 chapters in two books and more than 45 international conferences and symposium proceedings. At the Czech University of Life Sciences he is a guarantor of two complete study programs “Sustainable Rural Development – MSc master study program” and “Sustainable Rural Development – PhD study program”.
