The National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) is a Public Research Organization dependent on the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. INIA is the reference centre for the national management of agri-food and forestry research and holds a double responsibility:

1. Coordinate the national network of agri-food research centers in terms of harmonization, resource allocation, monitoring and evaluation of scientific, technical and research activities;

2. Perform its own research and technology projects and activities, including technology transfer.

INIA carries out R&D&I activities in agri-food several areas through different centers: Forest Research Centre (CIFOR), Animal Health Research Centre (CISA), Plant Genetic Resources Centre (CRF); and departments: Biotechnology, Environment, Animal Breeding, Plant Protection, Animal Reproduction and Food Technology. Other research activities are also carried out on Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP) and Evaluation of Plant Varieties and Plant Protection Products (DTEVPF).

People

  • Dr. Rocío Lansac is a biologist, PhD in agronomy. She has developed her research career in crop physiology for 12 years. After that, she worked in management of Spanish National Research Programmes for biomedicine, biotechnology and agri-food sciences in the Ministry of Science and Technology for 12 years. Since 2007, she has focused her work in the International Scientific Relations at the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, coordinating European initiatives such as the ERA-Net FORESTERRA or participating in ERAfrica. She is currently the Coordinator of international scientific relations of INIA, and deals with bilateral and multilateral relations: INIA Systems of Latin America, FONTAGRO, ERA-Nets (LEAP-AGRI), CSA (PROIntesAfrica), Joint Programming Initiative FACCE-JPI; Representation of Spain in international forums and committees related to agri-food research (SCAR, EURAGRI).
  • Mr. Pablo Gómez is Agronomic Engineer (MSc) and Environmentalist (MSc). He has developed his career complementing technical background in the field of agriculture research, plant health and food safety together with professional experience in EC funded programmes and activities management. He brings previous experience in development and cooperation linked to his degree dissertation performed in Central America on organic farming and rural development, international experience gained in training stages in Italy and UK and professional consultant experience in Brussels working as project manager in charge of several EC DG-SANTE projects. Mr. Gómez joined INIA International Scientific Relations team in December 2015 and he is currently supporting the management of several H2020 projects and activities, including representation at the FACCE-JPI Secretariat and representation for the INIA EU Projects Office in Brussels.
